Solidago: The power of yellow

Healing powers and golden yellow pigment

Solidago (goldenrod) originated in North America. It is a perennial plant which bears striking yellow branching panicles. Solidago virgaurea (European goldenrod or woundwort) is used as a natural remedy for kidney disorders among other things. The plant is also known for its antiseptic properties, hence its name: solidus is Latin for 'whole' and agere means 'to make', in other words, to make whole. Moreover, Solidago is used to make pigment. The flowers were traditionally used to dye wool a nice shade of golden yellow.

Solidago care tips

Solidago is a strong and voluminous cut flower, making it ideal for use in mixed bouquets. For bouquets with Solidago the usual care tips apply: cut off a section of the stems, remove the lower foliage and place the bouquet in clean water with cut flower food.
